Welcome to the Ehrenbreitstein Fortress Cultural Centre and Koblenz State Museum
The fortress stands on a rocky outcrop high above the confluence of the Rhine and the Moselle and has an almost magical attraction.
Visitors can enjoy a lively cultural centre with an exciting history, four exhibition buildings forming part of the Koblenz State Museum, great cultural events and lots of delicious culinary treats.
The exhibition buildings feature interesting permanent and temporary exhibitions. They focus on photography, archaeology, winemaking and hospitality and also showcase economic and cultural history. We also offer a wide range of educational campaigns and interesting side programmes for people of all ages.

(18:00 – 24:00 generally free access to grounds and hospitality)
The exhibition buildings are closed on 24 and 31 December.

Please note the special admission prices for the major events Landpartie (9-11 May 2025), Historienspiele (29/31 May, 1 June 2025), Horizonte (18-20 July 2025 / 18 July: evening event) and Gauklerfestung (25-27 July 2025 / 25 July: evening event), which differ from the regular price structure.
These events are included in the annual tickets.

From the base station of the cable car on the Rhine (Konrad-Adenauer-Ufer, 56068 Koblenz) you can hover over the Rhine to the ‘Entrée’ entrance to the fortress.

The fortress lift takes you from the base in the district of Ehrenbreitstein (Vor dem Sauerwassertor, 56077 Koblenz) in a relaxed and barrier-free manner to the ‘Fortress lift/Youth hostel’ entrance.

Take the bus to the ‘Fortress lift/Youth hostel’ stop or to ‘Ehrenbreitstein train station’ (about 10 minutes’ walk to the fortress lift) then take the fortress lift.

The ‘Milestones of fortress history’, which start just next to the main entrance, are an interesting, interactive trip back in time through the history of the fortress.
From the ‘5,000 years of Ehrenbreitstein’ exhibition to the flag tower, which houses both the highest and the lowest points of the fortress: while its central viewing platform affords spectacular all-round views, there is also an impressive multimedia exhibition on ‘3,000 years a stronghold’ way down underground.

House of Indulgence: Rhineland-Palatinate, the kingdom of wine
Learn about the 2,000 years of wine culture in the six Rhineland‑Palatinate growing areas and the importance of wine for tourism and the economy.
You can also sample some of the wines in the adjoining wine bar and find out more about local wines, grape varieties and the growing and production processes from our wine ambassadors.
There are cultural and culinary events in the glass-covered inner courtyard throughout the year, which are the perfect excuse for a special treat.
Archaeological Museum: Hidden treasures. Archaeology in the Middle Rhine and the Moselle
Take a walk through nearly one million years of human history. The permanent exhibition showcases evidence of human activity on the Middle Rhine and the Moselle from the Stone Age to the Middle Ages. The exhibits are among the most important finds of the Koblenz branch of the state archaeology department since 1949.
In the interactive area next door, you can get hands-on with history and touch objects that would normally be behind glass.
Archaeological Museum: Historical Time Gardens
On the roof of the Archaeological Museum, you can explore gardens from previous millennia. How did people’s gardens look in the Neolithic Period and when the Romans ruled the Rhine? Which plants grew in a medieval farm garden and in the subsistence garden of someone living in Ehrenbreitstein Fortress in the 1950s?
You can also visit a range of interesting temporary exhibitions at the Ehrenbreitstein Fortress Cultural Centre | Koblenz State Museum.

Ehrenbreitstein Fortress has a level of accessibility that is virtually unprecedented in a historic building. This benefits both wheelchair users and those who have a sensory impairment or other impairment that affects mobility (e.g. elderly people or families with buggies).

Certification
Ehrenbreitstein Fortress has been assessed according to the nationwide ‘Tourism for All’ labelling system (Deutsches Seminar für Tourismus Berlin e.V., Nationale Koordinierungsstelle Tourismus für Alle e.V.) and awarded the ‘Accessibility tested’ certificate by the testing centre.

The Koblenz Cable Car – An amazing experience
You can travel from Konrad-Adenauer-Ufer at the Deutsches Eck up to the fortress plateau in one of the most modern cable car systems in the world.
